KNIME Conversion Matrix

PlaidCloud converts KNIME workflows (.knwf) and workflow groups (.knar) into native Advanced workflows. The importer maps each KNIME node to a workflow step, project variable, or canvas object, and flattens metanodes and components, so a converted workflow runs cloud-native.

98.5% of KNIME node configurations convert fully, and 205 of the 207 core node types are Full. To run a conversion, see Migrate KNIME Workflows.

Each node has a status:

• Full — the node has a valid mapping to PlaidCloud steps.
• Partial — the node converts for its common use, while one distinct capability mode is not reproduced; the mode is named.
• Not supported — no conversion; the node stays on the canvas as a named placeholder and the capability is rebuilt natively instead.

Older and deprecated variants of a node are listed under the node that replaces them.

The few behaviors a converted workflow does not reproduce are listed under Known Edge Cases.

Flow Control and Archive Formats

Flow variables, variable overrides, switches, and loops convert where their values are known at conversion time. The loader accepts every observed archive layout — workflow versions, metanodes, components (inlined from the body stored in the archive), and group archives.

Extension Node Families

Nodes from KNIME’s extension families convert to standard PlaidCloud steps too: database, REST and web services, Python, R and Java scripting, machine learning, JSON and XML, text processing, notification and reporting, time series, geospatial, big data, image processing, chemistry, workflow services, and the long tail of core utility nodes. A node with no conversion path is kept as a named placeholder; see Not Converted.

Not Converted

A node without a conversion path is kept on the canvas as a named placeholder. The placeholder passes its data through, adds a warning that names the KNIME node, and never fails the conversion — a missing or unbound input is a warning, not an error. Any step downstream of a placeholder is flagged so a missing result is never silent.

Connecting to External Systems

A KNIME connector node becomes the connection its steps run on. Credentials are never imported, so each connection is one you choose in the target workspace, and the warning on the step names what to set.

Loop End (Column Append)	Converts to Table: Inner Join. A few settings combinations give results that differ from KNIME.
Row Sampler, Table Partitioner, Equal Size Sampling	Random draws use the PlaidCloud generator, so the selected rows can differ from KNIME’s. The conversion warns where this applies.

Checking a Converted Workflow

Row order and RowID are carried through the nodes that read them, so a workflow that depends on row order keeps it through those nodes. Compare the converted workflow’s output with your KNIME workflow’s output: schema, row count, and row values.
